About Us

SETTING THE STANDARD

A CULTURE OF EXCELLENCE

Marquette Transportation Company is one of the nation’s leading providers of diversified comprehensive marine transportation services.  We’re one of the nation’s fastest-growing providers of marine transportation solutions with the comprehensive, diversified capabilities that make us an industry leader. With a long history of service excellence and a reputation for getting the job done safely and on time, we set a higher standard for marine transportation year after year.

Marquette has three operations with a strategic mix of vessels powered with the latest marine technology and equipment to ensure safe, reliable, on-time service. Each area of operations — River, Gulf-Inland, and Offshore — began as a family-owned and operated business. We came together under one name, one team, and one direction so we could provide seamless marine transportation to our customers. Years after joining forces, our family culture continues, extending across all the waters we run.

The River Division

The core of Marquette is our River Division where we operate line haul vessels between New Orleans and St. Paul on the Mississippi River. We also operate on the Illinois River as far as Chicago and on the Ohio River as far east as Pittsburgh.

The Gulf Inland Division

Gulf Inland division operates from New Orleans Gulf area primarily west towards Houston and on to Corpus Christie. The biggest part of their business is moving tank barge moving liquid cargo. They are also a horsepower outsourcer.

The Gulf Offshore Division

Our Gulf Offshore division operates in the Gulf of Mexico and up the eastern seaboard servicing primarily the dredging business.

Why Choose Marquette

Green transportation. Better to the environment than rail and truck.

In an era of skyrocketing fuel costs and environmental concerns, more and more businesses are seeking cleaner, more affordable alternatives to semi-trucks and rail cars. Marine transport is more economical and efficient than transport by truck, rail, or air. On average, transporting bulk goods by water results in a 35 percent reduction in transportation costs.
